But I don’t want to get ahead of myself and will like to start from the basics of the book. I found Nehru’s thoughts about the history of India to be absolutely fascinating for it not just throws light on his deep love for this country, it’s people and the history they embody but also acts as the source of his solutions to India’s biggest problems back then, and in many ways India’s problems still now. Therefore, to me The Discovery of India was truly a discovery of India - a journey into all that I was missing in my own land and I thought it best to convert some of my thoughts about Nehru and his masterpiece into words. I would consider myself a member of that generation - a generation that lives in India but is perhaps unaware of a lot of its history. Three generations have passed since the momentous days of India’s independence struggle and due to the ill play of man’s penchant for forgetfulness, the current generation may be forgiven for not being well aware of the complexities of the days that produced India’s greatest thinkers and leaders. I recently read The Discovery of India, that window into the thoughts of a man whose vision was to define the lives of many a million of not just India’s population but also that of its neighbors. ![]() ![]() Book Review: The Discovery of India, Jawaharlal Nehru
